September Days are here
September, how did we get here so soon? With Labor Day Weekend winding down, I am finding myself accepting that it really is here.
Fall is my favorite time of year when it comes to Style and this year does not disappoint. It is exciting because the colors for Fall Fashion truly reflect the colors of the season. You can still find pinks and blues, but the primary colors are rich marigolds, burgundies, oranges, Terra cottas and soft sage greens. If you are like me, (one with a cool undertone), do not fear. These colors come in an array shades – you can find a burgundy with a cool undertone more in the cranberry tones, yellows can be pale yellows and there are many shades of green to choose from as well. So, this fall play with these colors. For those of you with warm undertones, people whose skin tans easily and look great in fall colors, you can anchor these rich colors in neutrals like taupe, cappuccino, creams and mushroom grays.
For people like me with a cool skin tone your neutrals should be bright white, navy, and cool grays, and those of you with a neutral undertone use off white, coffees, mid-range grays and black.
There are lots of prints this fall and you will continue to see floral’s, especially in the boho style tiered dresses that are carrying over from summer and continue to be HOT!
Animal prints are not going anywhere- I’m calling them the New Neutrals. We will continue to see leopard prints and snakeskin. Snakeskin will not be as strong and is showing up more muted. You will find this print better served as an accent piece such as shoes, belts, or perhaps as a jacket. New to the zoo - Zebra prints! You will see a lot of this print both with a brighter background and a muted background. My call this season is to try it muted. A soft yellow, grey, or brown/tan mixed with the black as opposed to the neon brighter colors. The muted lends more sophistication and versatility.
Skirt Suit Nation- play with skirts and jackets in beige, greige and black. Wear with separates, mix up the styles and patterns and shape.
Coats will be super-sized and shaggy, woolen puffas and “poofs”.
Hand knit cardigans and wraps will be popular especially for the work from home crowd.
Play with screen worthy tops and jewelry- chains, pearls, and crystal necklaces. Try sweaters with collars and ruffles- like a fun clown sweater, blouses with neckties and ruffles.
Athleisure will continue as a staple. However rather than wearing your leggings or joggers and tops as separates, matching suits will be the look this year. Think camouflage leggings with a matching camouflage top or hoodie. Matching joggers in the fall colors with pullovers or jackets. They can be in solids or prints. Prints lend to a bolder and livelier look so watch out for more creative styles as we move into the winter months.
Boots; booties, combat boots, riding style boots and wedge boots will be strong this season. They are easily worn with leggings, joggers, dresses, and skirts as well as jeans,
Speaking of jeans….the straight leg, high waisted jean is the winner this season. Boot cuts are making a comeback, but they cannot be worn with any old shoe and you must buy them a certain length to wear with a certain style shoe or boot. The straight leg can be cuffed with a tennis shoe, slide or worn longer with a break at the top of the boot.
So, as we start to see the days grow shorter and cooler, get your layers ready. Have those outfits with a light sweater layered over a tank or tee shirt, jackets with a long sleeve shirt. Get your shoppable list ready and fill in those missing pieces.
As always if you find yourself stuck in any part of the process I am here to help!
xoxoxo,
Julie
